Here’s to the Healthiest of Holiday Seasons

The holidays are just around the corner. These next few months will be filled with family, food, festivities, and fun. Check out these timely tips to help your holiday season go as planned.

Tasty Tailgating

Football and Thanksgiving weekend go together like a fork and a spoon. But, what’s a good football game without great food? Here’s how to score the game-winning touchdown at your next tailgate.

1. Grill smart.

If you light up the grill, have a fire extinguisher and a first-aid kit on hand. Don’t forget to fully extinguish all flames before you head home.

2. Cooler code.

When packing up tasty treats, keep uncooked meat in a separate cooler. And be sure to label drink coolers. It makes searching for the right beverage a no-brainer.

3. Food for thought.

Don’t take any chances with spoilage. Keep an eye on food that’s been sitting out for a while. A good rule of thumb: “when in
doubt, throw it out.”

Savor the Season within Reason

Food is a big deal this time of year. With so much deliciousness everywhere you look, it’s easy to overdo it. The good
news – it’s possible to savor the season while watching your waistline.

1. Budget your calories.

Be picky about what you eat and spend your calories on the foods you love most.

2. Don’t start on empty.

Before you head to the family feast, eat a little something so you don’t show up starving.

3. Enjoy each bite.

Eating slowly gives your brain time to realize you’re full. Try to slow down and savor that stuffing. Mmmm.

4. Eat your veggies.

They’re good for you, taste delicious and help take the edge off your appetite. Don’t forget to save room for pie. It’s the holidays!

‘Tis the Season to Be Stressful?

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Most of the time. Too much family and fun can be downright stressful, too. You don’t have to let it all get the best of you. Here’s how to stress less during the holidays.

1. Get Moving.

If you start to feel your anxiety levels rise, taking a brisk half-hour stroll can do wonders for your mind and body.

2. Laugh out loud.

A little bit of laughter has been proven to reduce stress hormones and help immune cells function better.

3. Forget perfection.

You can’t do it all, especially this time of year when there’s so much to do. Be kind to yourself and try not to sweat the small stuff.

Flu Shots

Holiday parties and family get-togethers mean you’re going to be around a lot of people and germs.

Have you had your flu shot?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends all adults get a flu shot.

Where can you get a flu shot?
– At an in-network provider-sponsored flu-shot clinic (typically, October through November)
– At an in-network pharmacy (call your pharmacy for availability)
